CEng Mauro Pompetti’s DPM Elettronica Srl is a small firm operating in Italy since 1991 in the electronic systems’ research and development, domotics and security sectors. In recent years, he dedicated a whole branch of the business, named DronesBench® products and services, to researching solutions for measurement, analysis and certification to allow end users a safe management of professional drones.
What we offer to our customers
The mission of DPM Elettronica’s Drones Laboratory is to offer a system of integrated services, fundamental for the diagnosis, testing, setting, and certification of professional drones. In a nutshell, this is a revolutionary offer that, thanks to the design of state-of-the-art technological equipment under the DronesBench® brand, allows a complete diagnosis of the status of the remotely piloted aircraft, in that determining the reduction of damages, accidents, losses and the compliance of the relative parameters compared to those existing at the time of the homologation of the drone. An accurate and complete analysis that, by indicating weak points and malfunctions, offers the opportunity to improve the devices’ performances.
This is possible thanks to the identification of what has been defined as: DronesBench Index (IDB) –Indice DronesBench-, corresponding to the FOM parameter, universally used to calculate the power / absorption ratio of the motors with the respective propellers.

Research and Development
DPM Elettronica invests many resources in studying and assessing devices to increase the level of safety of missions with drones before flight. We devised methods in synergy with the University of Sannio from Benevento, Italy, that became the subject of several publications at national and international level, also put to the attention of EASA. A novel technical parameter for the electro-mechanical efficiency of the drone has been identified, a Figure of Merit we named DronesBench Index (DBI), it being the ratio between the thrust and its necessary electric power, which represents a health index of the drone as a whole. The method, already used in our laboratories, consists in measuring this parameter on a new drone, possibly still at factory or just out of it, and then comparing it with the measurements made during periodic checks through the operational life.
Questions and answers
What is the DronesBench testing machine for?
It is used to perform measurements on the drone in motion, after it has been fixed to the bench by laces, for electro-mechanical health certification, performance evaluation, and general troubleshooting.
What is the difference between the advanced DronesBench measures and the classic telemetry measures?
The measurements provided by the DronesBench at ground level complete and verify the ordinary measurements provided by telemetry. In particular, the forces of inertia and possible atmospheric agents do not add to the forces produced by the drone’s propulsion system. In that sense, DronesBench can be a reference tool before the drone takes off.
Is it possible to measure the thrust of a single engine?
The thrust of the single engine can be obtained by the DronesBench either with all the engines switched on, through a mathematical calculation, or with just one engine running after the others have been disconnected, as a direct physical result.
Is it possible to measure the propeller torque?
The propeller torque can be obtained from the power and the number of revolutions. The power is read by DronesBench and the number of laps can be read with a speedometer.
How much does the DronesBench cost? Are you looking for partners and distributors?
